Day 4: Operation Crapatoa

Krakatoa: Volcanic island, 13,000 times as strong at an atom bomb. Last erupted 1927.

Crapatoa: Once daily eruptions have ceased. At 13,000 times as strong as an atom bomb, this can't be good. Add in a double ear infection and this makes for one crabby baby. Measures were taken Saturday to force an eruption, fearing the worst if nothing happened soon.

Once the operation was declared a success, I went in for clean up. Leah immediately began bucking like a bronco and I called for reinforcements. When Joe arrived, she tried to spin kick off the changing table but we held her steady. Landing on her front side the damage was minimal and we were able to salvage her onesie. Half a box of wipes and a dry diaper later we all felt a lot better.

Yes, a double ear infection. Leah's first. She's on the mend though and maybe we will take more pictures this week.

Rocking and Rolling

I started to compose this yesterday, but now I have to edit it! Leah shed some of her belly friction and started rocking on all fours this weekend - but last night she started to army crawl!! We gave her some extra motivation by putting the phone just out of her reach and that was all she needed. She is slow for a crawler, but fast for a beginner. It won't be long now!

She is also pretty close to sitting on her own, until she gets excited and looses control. She keeps us entertained with her new noises and tricks.

We had Friday off, so we took our little string bean to the zoo for the first time. For Leah, it was more about the people than the animals, but she seemed to like the penguins.

For Easter we went over to Jenni's and checked out Jake's new Wii. I think it could be very addictive.

This weekend I had remember how lucky we are. Leah wasn't being herself, she just wasn't happy for very long and wanted to be held a lot. Joe and I were trying to figure out what was wrong because this wasn't like Leah, but then I had to remind myself that sometimes baby's are just fussy. We are really lucky to have such a happy baby, even if she has her off days.

Oh me! Oh my!

Sunday night, Leah slept from 8:30 - 5 without waking up! Last night we weren't so lucky, but she had 4 shots at the doctor's so who can blame her?

Length - 27.4 inches, 91st percentile

Weight - 15 lbs. 4 oz, 26th percentile

The doctor pretty much gave us the ok to feed her whatever we want - yogurt, toast, pancake, fruits, veggies. I was pretty surprised about the first three but it will be a lot of fun to start feeding Leah new things that taste good. Joe and I are really looking forward to that.

Now you might be wondering about her weight and if we should be concerned. I was worried when we took her in a month ago and I could tell she was not going to double her birth weight by 6 months (considered a milestone). From the research I did, you should only be concerned if the child looks like they are jumping tracks on the growth chart. The doctor did not seem worried about Leah's weight and that is probably because she has always been in the lower percentiles. So don't worry, we feed her when she's hungry and she definitely gets enough to eat.

Welcome to our new site!

Hello everybody & welcome to our new & improved blog! Spring brings so many new things, including a new site with a new design.

This weekend was a lot of fun. Katie & Anna were in town while Steve & Crissie visited some college friends, so we went to the Magic House on Saturday. There wasn't much for Leah to do there but I think she had fun watching everyone and doing the things she could.

Sunday Crissie & Steve stopped by for an early Easter egg hunt for the girls. It will be a lot more fun next year but we were all glad to have one inside where it is warm & dry.

Leah is sleeping better again. We gave her her first fruit, apples, yesterday. She really liked it, much better than green beans. She still isn't crawling but getting a little bit closer everyday. Oh, and I bought her some new shoes this weekend - just in case she starts to walk soon (and because I thought they are so cute).
